Mayamiko Jere Kasoka, Thanzi la Bwino
Mayamiko Jere Kasoka is a farmer growing maize and leguminous crops in Dowa District. Due to lack of sustainable energy in most rural parts of Malawi, Maya is yet to lauch Thanzi la Bwino Enterprise which aims to use renewable energy for irrigation and agro processing.
In Dowa district, it is challenging for women farmers to attain bumper yields every year due to high dependency on rain fed agriculture and lack of access to farming inputs. As a result, households which are headed by women experience hunger every year and live in deep poverty. Their children are malnourished since they cannot afford to make a balanced diet meal and remain behind with education because they cannot afford to pay school fees.
Thanzi la Bwino entreprise will provide solar power for all year round farming and agro processing. Thanzi la Bwino will train vulnerable women farmers to maximize yields in their farms using renewable energy and bio methodologies and will create employment for both women and youths in the community.
