Guest Post: Why I Support Flame Tree

Dear friends,

I first learned about Flame Tree Initiative from our dear friend, Wayne Decker. It has been a golden opportunity for me to visit East African countries on four occasions. Along with observing magnificent wildlife, I had the honor of meeting wonderful people in spite of hardships and poverty.

Recently, Flame Tree Initiative has been telling the story of Marcel, a refugee living in Malawi who has benefited greatly from the DELab and DEStudio programs. He has turned the knowledge he learned into impact. So far, 1,400 children and 40 women have benefited from his education initiatives. And he has provided microloans, which have helped create 50 new businesses and scale 30 others.

And he’s not stopping there! 

I know that when I donate to Flame Tree Initiative, my dollar goes further because I’m not just supporting social entrepreneurs. The impact goes well beyond that when people like Marcel go on to improve lives of others in their communities. 

I understand the critical role supporters like us play in lifting people out of poverty in Malawi.
